Description
Summary:The following contributions document the panel discussion held at the Leuven Encounters in Systematic Theology X 'The Letter and the Spirit: On the Forgotten Documents of Vatican II'. The Second Vatican Council’s decree on the means of social communication Inter Mirifica was no doubt not reckoning with the immense variety of technologies and possibilities that exist today, when addressing the concerns and problems of social communication. Nevertheless, it paved the way for the Church’s awareness of the pastoral importance of its media perception. Even if to date the relationship with the media is not always all roses, the Church and its magisterium have learned to use the possibilities the media provide. One professor of theology, specialized in theological basic research, and two journalists (Vatican Radio and Herder Korrespondenz) reflect together on the relation between the media and the magisterium today
