| Item Description: | The article discusses Acts 23:6; 24:15ff.; 26:6ff. and 28:20 where the apostle Paul professes his loyalty towards the hope of Israel. E. Haenchen and P. Vielhauer had explained these passages as part of an apologetic strategy of Luke who wants to secure the status of religio licita for Christianity - with the result that no real solidarity with Israel lies behind them - but this study of the contexts, of Luke-Acts in general, and of Jewish traditions speaking of a resurrection (metaphorical or real) in the context of national hopes, demands a reversal of their view. The attitude of Paul towards Israel as described in Acts and certainly shared by Luke comes close to that of Romans 11 |
