总结:Abstract: René Girard's striking theory, much noticed except in English, that all human violence is a surrogate of sacrifice, is presented from its two starting points: primal violence against an innocent marginal victim reconciled the community and gave rise to all cultural institutions; this event was one manifestation of the imitativeness of all human desire. Thereupon is examined the application of this hypothesis by Girard himself and some defenders first to the Old Testament then to the New, and specially whether Girard is right in insisting that Jesus never intended his death as a sacrifice, but rather as a refusal of the whole immemorial system by which our culture (even worse where secularized) is dominated by the subconscious perpetuation of an unjust primal violence. As yet unproved are the universality of the imitativeness of violence in the formation of all human institutions and its relevance to a genuine AT-NT exegesis; but many insights must be retained as valid: chiefly that Christ's death was not a sacrifice in any then-common sense and that biblical revelation may illuminate human experience without being simply reduced to it. (Source: Francis).
