| Summary: | This short article describes the foundations and process underpinning the inaugural Congress of the Dicastery for Culture and Education on The Future of Theology: Legacy and Imagination, in December 2024. It describes the intent and process of the Dicastery in initiating and planning the event. Core to its success was the decision to recognise the expertise of all participants present by choosing an approach that allowed this expertise to be recognised, heard, and actively integrated as the key substance of the Congress. This involved the identification of seven theological "areas" around the world (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and the Eastern Churches), a methodology that involved active participation of all, and working through three steps or focus themes that allowed contexts, insights, and challenges to be heard: the Where, How, and Why of Catholic theology. |
