| Summary: | A partir de la publicación, en 2018, del libro póstumo de Michel Foucault, Las confesiones de la carne, dedicado a los padres de la Iglesia, se han sucedido varios estudios sobre esta temática por parte de los investigadores especializados en la obra del filósofo francés. Sin embargo, muy pocos de ellos lo han hecho desde la perspectiva de la patrología, lo cual busco realizar en este trabajo. Discutiré, entonces, la lectura que realiza Foucault de Tertuliano, a la hora de tratar el tema de la penitencia cristiana. Luego de presentar y ubicar los motivos del interés del autor por los escritores de la Antigüedad tardía cristiana, expondré su análisis acerca de la institución de la penitencia, propia de los primeros siglos de nuestra era, para finalizar señalando los límites, fundamentalmente de carácter metodológico, que considero se observan en el análisis foucaultiano. Since the publication of Michel Foucault’s posthumous book, The Confessions of the Flesh, in 2018, which focuses on the Church Fathers, numerous studies have explored this topic through the lens of the French philosopher. However, very few have approached it from the perspective of Patrology, which is precisely what I intend to do in this paper. I will examine Foucault’s reading of Tertullian in relation to the question of Christian penance. After outlining the reasons behind Foucault’s interest in the writers of late Christian Antiquity, I will present his analysis of the institution of penance, a practice characteristic of the early centuries of our era. Finally, I will highlight the limitations of his approach, particularly those of a methodological nature, which I believe should be taken into account in the Foucauldian analysis. |
