Description
Summary:We are here to celebrate the achievements of Barmen, and I think that it is right for us to do so, but only if the end product of our remembering is the acquisition of a greater courage and wisdom to engage ourselves in the act of Christian reflection and confession appropriate to our own historical moment. The history of the Church, as of humankind at large, testifies all too explicitly to the habit human beings have of turning apparently 'successful' achievements of the past into moments of glory, without extracting from them any genuine lessons in living, dying or telling the truth. We build tombs for the prophets!
