| Summary: | Este artigo visa analisar a função decisiva da metáfora na interpretação da religião, estruturan-do-se na abordagem poética conforme proposta por Paul Ricoeur, especialmente em seu conceito de “excesso de sentido” na obra “A Metáfora Viva”. Primeiramente, o artigo revisa a teoria da metáfora segundo Ricoeur, explorando como a poética da linguagem metafórica permite uma expansão de significado, abrindo novas dimensões de compreensão para o sagrado. Essa poética é crucial para representar realidades transcendentais que escapam à descrição literal. Em seguida, o estudo exami-na o uso da metáfora na religião, analisando como ela facilita o entendimento de conceitos-limite como Deus, eternidade e salvação, mantendo o mistério essencial que esses conceitos envolvem. Por fim, o artigo aborda as implicações da metáfora para as ciências da religião, argumentando que a metáfora serve como uma chave interpretativa que traduz o inefável em algo experienciável, renovando a compreensão do sagrado. Conclui-se que a metáfora, através de sua função poética, possibilita uma linguagem religiosa que não apenas comunica, mas transforma, abrindo uma via para novas vivências da fé e do sagrado. This article aims to analyze the decisive role of metaphor in the interpretation of religion, structured around the poetic approach proposed by Paul Ricoeur, especially in his concept of "excess of meaning" in “The Rule of Metaphor”. First, the article reviews Ricoeur's theory of metaphor, exploring how the poetics of metaphorical language enables an expansion of meaning, opening new dimensions of understanding for the sacred. This poetics is crucial for representing transcendent realities that escape literal description. The study then examines the use of metaphor within religion, analyzing how it facilitates the understanding of boundary concepts such as God, eternity, and salvation, while preserving the essential mystery these concepts entail. Finally, the ar-ticle addresses the implications of metaphor for the field of religious studies, arguing that metaphor serves as an interpretive key that translates the ineffable into something experiential, renewing our understanding of the sacred. It concludes that metaphor, through its poetic function, enables a religious language that not only communicates but transforms, opening a path to new experiences of faith and the sacred. |
