This study focuses on the Māsiḥ-i Miṣqal-i ṣafā-yi Āyina-yi ḥaqq-numā (1656), a Persian polemical treatise attributed to Aimé Chézaud (S.J., d. 1664). The Māsiḥ is a Persian response to the Miṣqal-i ṣafā dar tajliyyat va taṣfiyyat-i Āyina-yi ḥaqq-numā (1622) by the Shiite polemicist Aḥmad ʿAlavī. By investigating selected passages from the Māsiḥ, this article sheds light on how Father Chézaud engaged in a religious dispute with the Shiite religious élite of Iṣfahān through the adaptive reuse of material from the Miṣqal-i ṣafā by Aḥmad ʿAlavī, the Āyine-yi ḥaqq-numā by Jerome Xavier, and the Qurʾān. The article analyses three Qurʾānic quotations included in the Māsiḥ, which reveals information about the cultural background of Chézaud and how he selectively quoted parts of Qurʾānic verses to corroborate his Christian apologetic arguments.
