Description
Summary:The image that some Arab authors have of ancient North Africa may seem original in comparison to other sources, but it must be taken with great caution. The description of the material remains occupies an important place in certain accounts, notably those of geographers or travelers, and is sometimes accompanied by interpretations focusing on the function of ancient buildings or the meaning of certain iconographic details - although this is rather rare. This work focuses on the mention of inscriptions engraved before the conquest, which some Arab sources transmit by translating and commenting them.
