| Summary: | This article critically reviews scholarship on music’s potential role in racial reconciliation within South Africa’s Pentecostal-Charismatic churches. Drawing on decolonial perspectives in theology, missiology, musicology, and ethnomusicology, it interrogates how reconciliation has been conceptualised, highlighting tensions between relational approaches and those centred on justice and structural transformation. By situating South African debates within global ethnomusicological discussions and Pentecostal-Charismatic worship contexts, the paper identifies key theoretical and methodological gaps in current scholarship. This review contributes to theological and musicological scholarship by mapping interdisciplinary debates on music’s complex role in reconciliation and asking critical questions of reconciliatory intentions within Pentecostal-Charismatic churches. |
