| Summary: | This paper analyses in Carl Schmitt's work the idea of Katechon, the key to his most personal political theology, which connects Christian eschatology and political history. Although he never clearly defines its nature (spiritual or political, personal or impersonal), Schmitt insists on its historical and operational dimension. His thought reflects the tension between the political order and the end times, linking theology, law and power. Schmitt's idea of the progressive weakening of the Katechon in history is also described, symbolising the decline of political power with a transcendent vocation. |
