Description
Summary:This article examines the figure and the politico-theological thought of Juan Donoso Cortés within the context of nineteenth-century Spain and the broader crisis of European modernity. Tracing his intellectual evolution from early liberalism to the formulation of a political theology, it explores his Catholic response to secularization and modern rationalism. The paper also analyzes his later reception, particularly Carl Schmitt's reinterpretation and its impact on contemporary political theory. Ultimately, it argues that Donoso stands as a prophetic thinker of modernity, anticipating the enduring tensions between faith, reason, and political power.
