Description
Summary:In this article, Psalm 129 is examined as it is exegetically explained by Saint Augustine within the Enarrationes in Psalmos. First, the Latin text used by Augustine is presented and compared with that of the Septuagint and the Text of the Vulgata, in order to highlight the similarities and differences. Then Enarratio in Psalmum 129 is addressed, bringing to light the main theological, spiritual, and exegetical insights emphasized by the Bishop of Hippo. Next, the article studies the citations of Psalm 129 throughout all the Enarrationes in Psalmos, highlighting the ideas and elements Augustine underscores. Finally, the presence of Psalm 129 in the whole of Augustine’s work is examined, considering the similarities and differences found in his other commentaries on the same psalm.
