Description
Summary:The Calvinistic view of Sunday with reference to sport on Sunday and the broadcasting of it The purpose of this article is to trace the original Reformed view of Sunday on the basis of Calvin’s exposition of the Fourth Commandment, and to formulate certain guidelines concerning sport on Sunday and its broadcasting, which conflicts with this view. The Reformed view of Sunday wants to strike a balance between the two extremes of the Pharisaic-legalistic view of Sunday on the one hand, and the libertine freedom and conformity to the world on the other hand. In view of this, the set of directives used to rate sport on Sundays and its broadcasting must be the same as those used to rate any other activity on Sunday.
