Description
Summary:Glædemark: Grundtvig's Resignation from the Ministry in 1826. Reviewed by Steen Johansen. The historian H. J. H. Glædemark (now dead) has investigated from the standpoint of historical criticism the causes for Grundtvig’s unexpected resignation from the ministry in Copenhagen in May, 1826. All existing documents, letters, etc., are reproduced and analysed, and the author shows how difficult it is to get to the bottom of the matter, in spite of the abundant source material available. The greatest difficulty, however, lies in the understanding of Grundtvig’s character and plan of life, and here the author seems to fail to some extent, while also his knowledge of Grundtvig’s writings, especially of the information which Grundtvig himself gives about his resignation, leaves something to be desired. These faults give his investigations a somewhat one-sided character, though not diminishing the great usefulness of his researches.
