De humilde monje agustino a criterio de fe auténtica, al tiempo héroe y villano, santo y heresiarca. El terremoto que desencadenó ha ido más allá de su propia persona, señal de que llevaba tiempo larvándose. Algunos de sus postulados son imperecederos: salvación donada, fe confiada, Escritura sola. Otros, por el contrario, resultan letales: antihumanismo, predestinación, absolutismo. La dialéctica que le envuelve es nuestra misma condición. The figure of Martin Luther is a milestone in the evolution of Christianity. From being a humble Augustinian monk became a standard of authentic faith, at the same time hero and villain, saint and heresiarch. The earthquake that he triggered has gone beyond his own person, a sign that it had been a long time leavening. Some of its postulates are imperishable: granted salvation, trusting faith, Scripture alone. Others, on the other hand, are lethal: anti-humanism, predestination, absolutism. The dialectic that surrounds him is our very condition. |
