Description
Summary:Much has been done in 2025 by way of writing and conferences to remember 500 years of the Anabaptist movement. Although there is an active Anabaptist network in Britain, with considerable Baptist involvement, little has been written about Anabaptism in the Global South. For Anabaptist communities, like other Christian traditions, there has been what Dana Robert described as a ‘shift Southward'. This article explores how this has been taking place in Anabaptism over the past 200 years. The way in which Anabaptists have adapted to the changing contours is explored. Key Anabaptist missiologists have made important contributions and these are utilised. The article concludes by quoting Anicka Fast, who sees the growth of Anabaptism in Africa, Asia, and Latin America as having produced a movement that ‘looks a lot like the sixteenth-century Anabaptist movement’, especially in its strong focus on the Holy Spirit and its evangelistic zeal.
