| Summary: | The little book of Habakkuk is well known for the many problems it presents to the exegete. The most important problem concerns the identity of the wicked in Habakkuk. In each pericope, with the exception of 1:5-11, reference is. made to the wicked. The question arises: Who is the wicked? Eight solutions to the problem, in which the term is applied to persons or groups dated between the 7th and 2nd centuries B.C., are discussed. The conclusion is drawn that none of these is entirely satisfactory, the reason being that historical solutions are sought for a primarily literary problem. |
