Description
Summary:The author discusses four problems in the Itinerarium Egeriae. In 3, 6 Monachi … instituunt … iuxta sibi monasteria is probably best translated with 'and the monks build their cells close by'. In 42,1 the celebration mentioned by Egeria seems to belong to the Paschal cycle, which, presumably, weakens the opinion that Egeria, here, speaks of a feast of the Innocents. In 43, 3 lectum est means 'Holy Scripture reads'; interpreted in the same way Heraeus' conjecture lectum in 4, 4: licet … lectum non sit (against tectum of the manuscript) is highly plausible. In 43, 7 the translation of occurrent candele is 'torches are ready'.
