Description
Summary:Edition with a commentary of two homilies by Augustine from the Mainz florilegium (Stadtbibliothek I 9). The first, which completes homily 283 in the Maurist edition, was preached on 22 July, the feast of the martyrs of Maxula; the second commemorates bishop Quadratus of Utica (21 August). Both probably date from Augustine's lengthy stay at Carthage in the summer of 397. A brief account of the principal information which the Mainz homiliary contains with regard to hagiography is given at the beginning of the article.
