Description
Summary:The history of the Flos Sanctorum in Castilian prose during the XVI and XVII centuries requires new bibliographical and philological studies. There are two essential periods of this genre: the first one includes the Flos Sanctorum by Ocaña and Vega (1516-1580), based on the Legenda aurea by Jacobo de Voragine, and the second one (1578-1700) includes several Flores Sanctorum (Villegas, Ribadeneyra, Sanctoro) based on the Vitae Sanctorum by Lippomano and Surio. In spite of that, the genre presents some constant characteristics: the structure, the collaboration between authors and the progressive correction and revision of the contents.
