Description
Summary:The hermit Illuminatus lived at Montalbano, a locality near to Città di Castello, between the 11th and the 12th century and his relics were translated to the city in about 1230. The earliest source on his life is the saint's Office, the readings of which are in all probability all that survives of an early mediaeval legend. The text of the Office is published here on the basis of a copy made in the 18th century, the sole surviving witness, preserved in the Historical Archives of the Diocese of Città di Castello.
