| Summary: | Increasingly, in more and more situations, pastors face parishioners who lack basic knowledge about the rituals they witness and the stories they hear. The Gospel is proclaimed in Europe within a culture that is becoming less and less Christian. This article compares the situation of pastoral in prisions services at a given moment with that of the pre-catechumens in antiquity. In his unique catechesis for that group, Augustine used a reading principle that is found in certain passages of the New Testament and in rabbinic writings. This reading principle summarizes and guides all interpretation of the Scriptures. Rather than offering some traditionally calibrated good summaries, the aim of this article is to raise pastors’ awareness of their own summary. |
