| Summary: | Herrie started his career as adjunct faculty in 1975 after which he became a minister in the Reformed Churches in South Africa (Gereformeerde Kerke in Suid-Afrika). He completed his Ph.D in 1977 in which he compared the structures of extra-biblical state treaties such as the Sefire treaties with Deuteronomium. With this study he opened the gate for a cultural-historical understanding of treaties and what would be known as the covenant in the Old Testament. Moreover, he opened the door for others to utilise extra-biblical material to understand what is going on in the Old Testament in a context that was unreceptive to the use of extra-biblical material. |
