Description
Summary:The year in which the present volume was published, 2007, was also the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the first Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave near the ancient ruins of Qumran. These Hebrew and Aramaic Scrolls - of which more than 900 have been recovered - are widely acknowledged as the greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century. They have revolutionised scholarly understanding on a number of fronts, including the textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible and the history of early Judaism in the late Second Temple Period. The edition princeps of these scrolls, Discoveries in the Judaean Desert series, has just been completed.
