Riepilogo:The Edinburgh Companions to Global Christianity is a literary project that traces its origins to 2005 when work began on The Atlas of Global Christianity 1910-2010 (Edinburgh University Press, 2009). The ten-volume series took the approach of the Atlas to a greater level of detail. Combining innovative presentation of authoritative demographic data with original interpretative essays, the Companions examine the status of Christianity in every country in the world as well as taking account of the ecclesiastical spectrum and discussing key themes in every part of the world. The main finding is the dramatic shift that is occurring in the demography of Christianity, as there are already many more Christians in the Global South than in the Global North, with this trend set to continue. As well as capturing the big picture, the Companions offer fine-grained analysis of many different contexts, taking account of such matters as secularization, new movements, church unity, inter-religious relations, the role of women, culture wars, real wars, racism, and climate catastrophe. The quality of production, both of the Edinburgh University Press hardbacks and the Hendrickson paperbacks, ensures that the ten-volume series will remain an essential work of reference on Christianity worldwide in the early 21st century.
