Its origins lie in the repression of Jews in the time of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The many historical inaccuracies in the book betray the late date of origin. The tension between the supposed and the real date of origin of the book, however, poses important questions. How did the Book of Daniel come into being? What was the origin of the tales? Is the Bible reliable if tales that a writer used to descriptionbe history were in actual fact fiction? The article also highlights the placement of the Book of Daniel in the Massoretic canon in the Writings, and in the Greek canon in the Prophets.
