| Summary: | This article represents an attempt to apply the bisociative character of creativity to the field of biblical interpretation. An explanation of the concept of bisociation is followed by methodological considerations. In this regard I discuss a number of Old Testament scholars' attempts to provide creative and imaginative interpretations of the Bible as an alternative to familiar methods of exegesis, and especially historical criticism. In the final section the text of Jeremiah 30:12-17 is used to illustrate how literary techniques employed by biblical authors bear witness to bisociation. |
