Summary:Were the 1950s a golden age in Iraq? This article explores the relationship between history, memory and nationalism in the Iraqi context. It was a time of considerable economic growth and exciting artistic output and experiments. At the same time, it was also a time of political corruption and revolutionary zeal. The 1950s ended with a revolution that overthrew the British imposed Hashemite Monarchy that marked a distinct end of an era.
