In Tobit the decision between Hebrew and Aramaic remains open. Recent research assumes a Greek original for Judith, which is also suggested here for 1 Maccabees. 2 Maccabees as a whole, including the letters at the beginning, is considered Greek. Both parts of Baruch, chap. 1-5, and the Letter of Jeremiah, chap. 6, were also written in Greek. Was die Frage nach der ursprünglichen Sprache der griechischen Schriften des Alten Testaments betrifft, so gibt es eine klare Antwort im Fall von Sirach (Hebräisch) und Weisheit (Griechisch). Bei Tobit bleibt die Entscheidung zwischen Hebräisch und Aramäisch offen. Die neuere Forschung geht bei Judith von einem griechischen Original aus; dasselbe wird auch für 1 Makkabäer vorgeschlagen. 2 Makkabäer, einschließlich der Briefe am Anfang, gilt als durchgängig griechisch.
