| Riepilogo: | Quintilian in his Institutio oratoria develops his vision of the good man (vir bonus) as an ideal to be reached through the teaching of rhetoric’s. This article studies how to bring about such a project, it identifies the necessary requirements to properly train apprentices, and how this training is determined by the proper consideration of the two fundamental types of affects: the ethos (mores) and the pathos (adfectus). We show how the orator of Calahorra takes advantage of the tension between these two affects to set the boundaries of the action place were and ideal oratory could evolve and thrive. |
