| Summary: | Throughout modernity, schools for orphaned girls were established as one of the main ways that allowed women to approach prayer, reading and the tasks of their sex. Taking advantage of the ratification of a founding deed dated in 1620, in this article we propose to know the ordering, operation and organization of the College of Orphan Girls of Palencia. An institution founded by the canon don Juan Gutiérrez Calderón and which, under the auspices of the cathedral chapter, was in charge of feeding, instructing and remedying the poor girls of the city. We will know the age at which they entered, the time they stayed, how they dressed and the knowledge they learned. A lo largo de la modernidad, los colegios de niñas huérfanas se constituyeron como una de las principales vías que permitían a la mujer acercarse a la oración, la lectura y las labores propias de su sexo. Valiéndonos de la ratificación de una escritura fundacional datada en 1620, en este artículo nos proponemos conocer el ordenamiento, funcionamiento y organización del Colegio de Niñas Huérfanas de Palencia. Una institución fundada por el canónigo don Juan Gutiérrez Calderón y que, bajo el auspicio del cabildo catedralicio, se encargó de alimentar, instruir y remediar a las niñas pobres de la ciudad. Conoceremos la edad a la entraban, el tiempo que permanecían, cómo vestían y los saberes que aprendían. |
