| Summary: | This article offers a synoptic reading of the religious visions of the suffering in Saint Francis of Assisi and Job, two distant figures, very different but deeply connected in the Christian tradition. While Francis experiences pain as a sign of divine love, manifested in the stigmata and in the union with the crucified Christ, Job faces it as an unjustified mystery, questioning God on the meaning of human suffering. Without directly comparing them, the study highlights how both experiences challenge the theologies of suffering as punishment or atonement, proposing instead a vision of God who accompanies man in pain and makes it an experience of love and redemption. |
