Resumo:The Byzantine Chronographer Syncellos claims that καινὴ κτίσις („new creation“) in Gal 6:15 is taken from the „Apocalypse of Moses“. He means the Book of Jubilees – and is right. Paul has both the concept and the phrase from Jub 1:29. The context in Jubilees deals with a reconstitution of the world and Israel focusing on the promise of a new covenant known from Jer 31:31–34MT // 38:31–34LXX, Ez 36:24–28 and Dt 30:6. The renewed Israel will be gifted with the Spirit and a new heart that enables all Israelites to do the law by nature. It is this promise of pneumatic existence and a renewed nature that Paul takes over and designates by the term „New Creation“. He adopts it motivated by the eucharistic tradition that defined the church as the new covenant. Jesuanic tradition has catalyzed the use of Jewish tradition which Paul probably knew from his Jewish education in Jerusalem.
