| Summary: | In philosophical theology of the analytic tradition, there is currently an intense debate between authors who question the compatibility of the doctrine of divine simplicity with the idea that God creates freely, and those who defend the compatibility between both. The fact that the main arguments in this debate are already present in the tradition of Scholastic philosophy is usually overlooked. This article explains the way in which Francisco Suárez faces the problem, refuting the positions of previous authors on the subject and advancing his own original solution. Existe actualmente en la teología filosófica de tradición analítica un intenso debate entre autores que cuestionan la compatibilidad de la doctrina de la simplicidad divina con la idea de que Dios crea libremente y quienes defienden la compatibilidad de ambas. Se pasa por alto habitualmente el hecho de que los principales argumentos en este debate ya estaban presentes en la tradición de la filosofía escolástica. En este artículo se explica el modo en que Francisco Suárez aborda el problema, refutando las posiciones de autores anteriores sobre la cuestión y proponiendo su propia solución original. |
