Although some have atributed to Pope Victor the title of the first Latin Christian writer in Rome, this claim lacks conclusive evidence. It is possible that the earliest Roman Christian works in Latin were the translations of 1 Clement and Hermas, while the earliest Latin translatinos of the NT would have taken place in Africa. This suggests that the Latinisations of Christian communities in Africa preceded those in Rome, which would be explained by the local linguistic configuration and the steady flow of Greek-speaking Eastern Christian migrants to the imperial capital. | ||
