Description
Summary:In this text I will compare the use of the concept of "metaphysical desire" in two works published in 1961: Deceit, Desire and the Novel: Self and Other in Literacy Structure, by René Girard, and Totality and Infinity, by Emmanuel Lévinas. These two philosophers specified and modified the use of this concept in their later books, as can be seen in the works of the 70s, Violence and the Sacred (1972), and Otherwise than Being or Beyond Essence (1974). However, they will not be discussed here.
