Description
Summary:The interpretation of the τὸ κωνώπιον motif in the Judith story is a persistent exegetical problem. The various existing explanations of its function are only partially satisfactory. The main deficiency of the exegetical proposals is the lack of consistency among all instances of the motif in the story and the missing link with the theological theme of the book. Using the narrative analysis of space, this study argues that τὸ κωνώπιον represents a symbolic spatial object which plays its role in the reversal of fates of the sacred spaces of two deities in conflict in the story.
