Description
Summary:One of our seminarians is a widower who lost his wife to cancer some years ago. He is due to be ordained a deacon this spring. For one of his theological reflections in his pastoral ministry course, he spoke about the experience many years ago of undergoing in vitro fertilization in order that his wife might conceive a child. Pregnancy was never achieved. The instructor brought this matter to the attention of the rector. At the time, the man and his wife were ignorant of the morality of this procedure. The rector wants to know if this experience renders the man irregular for receiving holy orders because of the delict of abortion.
