Graduou-se em Teologia na Christ’s College da Universidade de Cambridge, onde também realizou seu doutorado, tendo como ênfase a influência do misticismo do judaísmo antigo no Novo Testamento. Sua escrita tem sido principalmente focada na natureza e história do apocalipsismo, especialmente o livro do Apocalipse. Suas visitas ao Brasil, ao longo da década de 1980, o introduziram aos temas da Teologia da Libertação, o que o conduziu a escrever sobre o radicalismo cristão. Foi editor do The Cambridge Companion to Liberation Theology (1999) e, dentre suas outras obras, destacam-se The Open Heavens(1982), Radical Christianity (1998) e Radical Prophet (2017). Ele é casado e tem quatro filhos[1]. A presente entrevista ocorreu por videoconferência em 10 de agosto de 2022, tendo como foco as possibilidades de análise da perspectiva política do livro do Apocalipse de João, bem como da relação do livro com o conceito de teologia política. Ela será apresentada em dois idiomas, primeiro o original, e depois a tradução para o português. Christopher Rowland was born in Doncaster, an industrial city in the north of England. He studied at Cambridge University where he did his doctorate on the influence of early Jewish mysticism on the New Testament. He has taught at the Universities of Newcastle upon Tyne, Cambridge & Oxford. His writing has been mainly the nature & history of apocalypticism, especially the Book of Revelation. His visits to Brazil over the years introduced him to liberation theology & led to his research & writing on Christian radicalism . He was editor of The Cambridge Companion to Liberation Theology (1999) and, among his other works, The Open Heavens (1982), Radical Christianity (1998) and Radical Prophet (2017) stand out. He is married and have four children. This interview was conducted by videoconference on August 10, 2022, focusing on the possibilities of analyzing the political perspective of the Apocalypse, as well as the relationship between the book and the concept of political theology. It will be presented in two languages, first the original, and then the tradition into Portuguese. |
