Description
Summary:Many religious schools across Australia and the globe have affirmed the importance of the arts in primary and secondary religious education, and sought to include the arts in their syllabuses and school programs. During the past two years, I have been privileged to work with the Sydney Catholic Schools' K-12 Religious Education Team, Mission and Identity Directorate, on a project that seeks to embed the Catholic Liberal Arts (CLA) into the archdiocese's Religious Education (RE) program, "Syllabus Document for the Religious Education Curriculum, Sydney Catholic Schools". This CLA program comprises five strands per year, with a professional development (PD) day devoted to each strand over the course of that year (five PD days). A similar CLA perspective is already embedded in a Board-Endorsed Course offered in all Years 11-12 archdiocesan schools, entitled "Studies in Catholic Thought".
