| Summary: | This article presents a summary of the basic Catholic Church documents which led to and created the faculty of Oriental canon law at the Pontifical Orien- tal Institute in Rome in 1971. After highlighting the contents of these formative documents the article notes the most significant contribution of the faculty in the production of the Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium, and after its promul- gation in 1990, the teaching of its schola textus and related matter. The underlying theme in the article is an historical reflection on the first fifty years of the faculty's Catholic and ecumenical missions and its accomplishments in being a bulwark and safeguard for the fundamental right of every Eastern rite Catholic to be both Eastern and Catholic. Questo articolo presenta una sintesi dei documenti fondamentali della Chiesa cattolica che hanno portato alla nascita e alla creazione della facoltà di diritto canonico orientale presso il Pontificio Istituto Orientale di Roma nel 1971. Dopo aver evidenziato i contenuti di questi documenti formativi, l'articolo evidenzia il contributo più significativo della Facoltà nella produzione del Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium e, dopo la sua promulgazione nel 1990, l'insegnamento della schola textus e delle relative materie. Filo conduttore dell'articolo è una ri- flessione storica sui primi cinquant'anni di missione cattolica ed ecumenica della Facoltà e sui suoi successi nell'essere baluardo e salvaguardia del diritto fonda- mentale di ogni cattolico di rito orientale ad essere allo stesso tempo orientale e cattolico. |
