Riepilogo:As is well known, for Thomas Aquinas the baptismal character is an instrumental power. This means that it belongs to a type of realities that he calls intentiones, immaterial entities with an esse intentionale. The article begins with an analysis of the properties and types of intentional realities. It then focuses on the baptismal character as the intentional presence of divine power in the baptised. Finally, it addresses the question of the permanence of the baptismal character as the constitution of the intellect of the baptised in the form of an instrument, and the inchoate presence of the divine virtue.
