Description
Summary:This article aims to map out research on religion, politics, and migration in Latin America, with special emphasis on Brazil. It begins by highlighting the region’s social, political, and religious transformations, including the growth of the evangelical religion and the resurgence of far-right political movements. Seven thematic axes are proposed to guide research in this area, ranging from immigration policies to the role of religious organizations in welcoming migrants. A cartographic approach is adopted to map out the theoretical territory, identifying trends, gaps, and new research areas. The analysis of the results of a systematic search for academic papers highlights insights into the role of religion in the integration of migrants, the growth and engagement of evangelicals, the intensity of migratory flows, and the influence of migration theologies on public policies. However, gaps in existing research are identified, such as the lack of studies on migration theologies and their relationship with far-right political ideologies, pointing to future research opportunities for a more comprehensive understanding of these complex dynamics.
