Description
Summary:Christianity laid at the foundation of European civilization values incompatible with violence and war. The Church has emerged in history as an eschatologically oriented community, with Jesus Christ at its centre, who is both the origin and the perfect goal of the Church. However, modern times have seen outbreaks of violence of an unprecedented intensity and extent in the form of revolutions and wars. The present paper places the origin of this modern escalation of violence precisely on the repudiation of Christianity, the secularisation of Christian values and the emergence of a type of secular eschatology and secular political religions that have renounced those Christian values on which Euro-Atlantic civilisation was built.
