Summary: | The rise of global terrorism or nationalist populism in our world of today are worrying developments in our world of today and raise questions about how to live together in a global world or how identity and universalism should be related to each other. Pankaj Mishra’s book Age of Anger offers important insights into the deeper roots of the current crisis. He partly engages with René Girard’s mimetic theory to explain why envy and resentment increasingly are causing anger all over the world. Also, a new take on religious traditions is emphasized in his call for a new enlightenment. |
