Summary: | Using examples from the prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah) and wisdom books (Proverbs, Job, Psalms, Ben Sira), this article suggests that the phenomenon of rhyme, while by no means ubiquitous, plays more than a marginal role in classical Hebrew poetry. Rhyme often has the structural function of delimiting poetic units, by marking the opening and closing lines. |
