Description
Summary:Based on the recent published monography of Kathrin Liess on Ps 16 („Der Weg des Lebens“) this short notice reinvestigate the verses 2-4 and tries to show, that, while 2 ist addressed to God (2a = speech introduction; 2b.c = speech), 3f. is addressed to the community of „saints“ (3a.b = speech introduction; 4a[b.c] = speech). Both parts a interrelated. The change of address has consequences for the communicative and textpragmatic dimension of the psalm. A liturgical setting in the context of the Jerusalem temple becomes more likely than a non-cultic wisdom tractate. The overall structure of the psalm could be explaned either as concentric (ABCB´A´ – with 5f. as centre), following Liess, or as a diptych (ABC | A´B´C´) – a textpicture, which invites a synoptic understanding of the two main parts.
