Summary: | This anthology injects women's voices into interreligious dialogue, which is all-too-often dominated by religiously authorized spokesmen, and questions the theory and practice of interreligious dialogue from feminist perspectives. The contributors speak from Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspectives and reflect British, Dutch, German, Hungarian, Spanish, Slovene, Turkish and US American cultural contexts. While the European Society of Women in Theological Research (ESWTR) has for more than two decades negotiated its member's national, cultural and linguistic diversity quite successfully, the presence of diverse non-Christian religious communities in Europe has so far been marginalized. As the religious make-up of Europe is changing due to globalization, the discipline of theology must create ways to reflect, study and teach in a religiously pluralistic world. This book explores the possibilities of feminist solidarity in the midst of diversity and conflict by charting a pathway between acceptance of religious differences and rejection of patriarchal tenets within these religions. |
