Accordingly, Bax, whose two friends, Lesley Blanch (1904-2007) and Meum Stewart (1895-1957), had expressed an interest in meeting 'the Worst Man in the World', organised a dinner party at the London R.A.C. Club and added Frieda, Lady Harris (1877-1962), to the guest list. Harris had already established herself as a talented artist, and her fascination with mysticism and the emerging esoteric trends of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, made her an ideal candidate. As a result of this meeting, a remarkable partnership was formed. The Book of Thoth was Crowley's last major magical work and Harris's Tarot paintings are a fundamental component thereof"-- |
